Rally Guide 9.3 - Novice Competitor Orientation:
The Novice Competitor Orientation will be held at the Food and Relaxation Area in Poppy Pavilion, at 10:00 AM on Saturday April 28. It will be taught by Competitor Relations Officer Jim Gill.

Event Safety and Flagging Procedures:
Competitors will encounter the following flags in use on the Super Special Stage and practice runs:
- Red - Stop immediately IN YOUR LANE and do not continue until directed to do so.
- Blue - "Directing flaggers" - follow their instructions for entering, exiting or stopping at the end of a stage.
- Checkered - You have finished; slow down as fast as possible and look for a "directing flagger" (blue flag) to show where you are to stop or go next.
- Green - Will only be used as a backup for starting if the display clocks fail.

Clarification to the amendment to NRSGRR 2.17.7 in the Rally Guide: Although competitors will not be issued a routebook, they will be issued a page with an OK Sign on one side and a Red Cross on the other side. Teams will be expected to use both signs appropriately per the NASA Rally Sport General Regulations.

Rally Guide 2.2 - Organizing Committee additions:
Tech Director: Matt Sweeney
Emergency Services: Bill Tibbitts
Service Area Steward: Don Shreyer

Location of Tech Inspection:
Tech Inspection will be in front of the Eliopoulos Pavilion (formerly Lilac Pavilion).

Car Washing Available (Optional):
A local small business in Lancaster can wash your car as you exit from running the practice session or stages (before the STOP control). Cost will be $5 per wash, or $20 (any number of washes) for Saturday and $15 for Sunday. Undercarriage wash is available for an additional $10.

Rally Guide 17 - Inquiries and Protests:
Inquires will not be accepted for a given stage later than 60 minutes after the last car finishes that stage, except for the last stage on Sunday. For the last stage on Sunday inquires will not be accepted later than 30 minutes after the last car finishes the stage.

Rally Guide 8.1 - Practice Session on Saturday morning:

Runs: A “Run” will consist of two complete laps around the Super Special Stage course. Three cars will line up at the appropriate Start / Finish line (one behind the other) for that direction. When the course is clear the starter will start the first car. When the first car is about 1/3 of the way around the course the starter will start the second car. When the first car is about 2/3 of the way around the course the starter will start the third car. As the cars complete their second lap they will be shown the checkered flag. A bit further down the track the competitor will be either flagged to a stop or directed off the course (depending on the direction of the run - CW or CCW).

Order of Runs: The Super Special Stage practice will last for two hours (8:30 – 10:30 AM on Saturday). This two hour period will be broken into four sessions each 30 minutes long. The first session will run clockwise (CW), the second counter-clockwise (CCW), the third CW and the fourth CCW.

Number of Runs: Each driver will be allowed a maximum of one CW run and one CCW run.

Driving Lights:
Competitors should expect to need driving lights for Super Special Stage 4 on Saturday evening.

Rally Guide 15.2 - Trophies and Awards:
Motul will be awarding a $80 gift certificate to the top three Four Wheel Drive and Two Wheel Drive finishers. These will be presented at the awards ceremony.

Event Format:
As a result of a meeting yesterday with A.V. Fairgrounds personnel and a representative from Championship Off Road Racing (CORR) - which is doing a race at the same venue the week before RIM and again in September - we have decided to revise the format for the Super Special Stage to make use of permanent features of the CORR course.

The CORR track includes several wide banked turns and a fast, flowing course which lends itself better to a “pursuit” format than the side-by-side layout with crossover that was originally planned. In a pursuit format two vehicles run half a lap apart, each making four full laps of the track using their start line as their flying finish. The two start/finish lines will be adjacent to each other, allowing easy comparison between the two teams each time a lap is completed. Each car will enjoy use of the entire track width, allowing drivers to choose their own line through the corners.

The public will be introduced to some of the challenges of stage road rallying on this course. A few waterbars and yumps, a water crossing, a narrow gate, and an apex bank or two will allow rally drivers to show off their skills with familiar “hazards.”

Competitor Relations Officer:
Jim Gill will be the Competitor Relations Officer.
